A member of the hermit crab family, it is found in the Pacific to Indian Oceans and in Japan in Kagoshima
and Okinawa prefectures. They grow to a maximum size of 40 cm, and when their arms are extended, they reach
a length of about 1 m. The force of their scissors is said to be 90 times their body weight. The pinching
force of its scissors is said to be about 90 times its body weight, and it is capable of breaking a human
finger.
This sample was CT scanned at the request of Bandai Co. This 3D data is used in the new “Coconut Crab” in

Although not confirmed by this CT scan, the interior of the scissors is made up of layers of several microns. Scissors are also made of an exoskeleton, but it is not strong enough. Therefore, it is believed that the scissors are as strong as steel by making the inside of the scissors with a laminated structure.
