Female beetles lack the characteristic horns seen on males. However, if the horns are subtracted, female
beetles have the same physique as males, and their lifespan is said to be longer.
As shown in the illustrated data in No.5-2, the horns appear around the time of pupation, and the sex of the
female can be determined. In addition, one in every 100,000 to 200,000 beetles is a “hermaphrodite,” an
individual that is a mixture of male and female beetles. It is known that this characteristic rarely appears
not only in beetles but also in other insects.
