Mackerel is a saltwater fish that is widely enjoyed as a food source, and masaba is classified as one of the highest quality fish among them. It has a distinctive pattern on its back, and it is common to distinguish between species by the pattern. Because of their migratory life in the open sea, they have a very fleshy and powerful form. Larger specimens can grow to 50-60 cm in length, but for the purpose of this CT scan, a specimen of about 30 cm was used.
Because the scan was taken in a moist condition, the minute irregularities of the internal organs and body surface are not represented. On the other hand, the shape of the skeleton is clearly imaged. In addition to the ribs that extend to encircle the internal organs and the neural spines that extend upward toward the dorsal fin, we can observe the inter meatus bones that extend directly across the body, called the ossicles. The CT shows the hardened tissue around the fins and other structures that support the powerful form, although the bones are thinner than those of terrestrial creatures.
