Eels are saltwater fish of the family Euphausiacea, and in Japan they live in shallow-water reef areas from western Honshu to Kyushu and Okinawa. The individual scanned this time was caught in Kochi Prefecture. The length of an adult fish is about 80 cm in general. They are carnivorous, with sharp, pointy teeth, and feed on crustaceans, shellfish, small fish, and octopuses. In some parts of Japan, they are popular as a food source.
The 3D model of the skeleton is lined with over 100 vertebrae and ribs. From the skull, it can be observed that there are also large teeth inside the sharp teeth that line the jaw. A second jaw, the pharyngeal jaw, can also be seen at the back of the throat, but it has lost its shape, probably due to the effects of capture. In addition, the skeleton of a small fish that was preyed on just before is still intact in the digestive tract.
