The black telescope goldfish is a breed of goldfish that has been selectively bred from crucian carp. It is characterized by its large, protruding eyes and black body coloration. Goldfish have a long history as ornamental fish, with significant variation among breeds in body shape, fins, and eye size
A CT scan was performed on this specimen to observe the internal structure of the black telescope goldfish. The CT scan reveals eyes that protrude prominently from both sides of the head, as well as a spine and ribs that support the rounded body. A large space occupied by the swim bladder can also be seen in the abdomen, suggesting its role in buoyancy control. The dorsal and caudal fins are supported by numerous fine fin rays, which help maintain the shape of the long, extended fins. Although the black telescope goldfish has a soft and elegant appearance, CT scanning reveals the precisely arranged skeletal structure and buoyancy-related anatomy contained within its body.
