CT imaging revealed a very large number of bones. It has about 87 vertebrae, which allows it to wiggle its
body into crevices in rocks.
Scallops, keg crabs, and sea urchins are also their favorite foods. The reason why they can chew up hard
objects like scallops is in their teeth. The scallop has three types of teeth: sharp canine teeth on the
front side of both jaws, flat-tipped molar-like teeth like human back teeth on the back side, and pharyngeal
teeth on the back side. The molar-like teeth are most active in biting and crushing scallops. The lower side
is the base and the upper side is the fist, like a roof tile cracker.
