The red-bellied newt is an amphibian that belongs to the family Newtidae of the order Myrmecophagidae. It is endemic to Japan and is also known as the Japanese newt. Newts are known for their particularly high regenerative abilities, and can regenerate even if their jaws are torn off or parts of their heart, brain, or eyes are removed. Many amphibians are known to have a high regenerative capacity, but only newts have the ability to regenerate many times, even after reaching adulthood. They are also equipped with venom in their skin, which should be washed thoroughly after touching them.
If you look closely at the tail in the CT image, you can see that the nodes are finely defined. The
lighter-colored areas are less dense, and the vertebral tails have larger and thicker projections.
Despite the small size of the body, the skeleton alone looks like a dinosaur.
